A video of two elephants trying to shield their caretaker from heavy rain has gone viral on social media. The internet is calling it a moment of pure love and empathy.

The video, shared by Lek Chailert on Instagram, founder of Thailand’s Save Elephant Foundation, showed elephants Chaba and Thong Ae standing protectively around her during rain.

As thunder rumbled in the background, the elephants instinctively leaned in and positioned their large bodies to block the rain.

In the caption of her video post, Chailert wrote, “When I put on my raincoat, Chaba gently checked on me, touching me with her trunk, and then gave me a sweet trunk kiss, as if to say, ‘Don’t worry, everything will be okay.’”

This small but touching moment has drawn over millions of views and thousands of comments from users across the world, who have described the elephants’ actions as “humbling,” “emotional,” and “beautiful beyond words.”

Chailert further wrote in her caption, “Elephants are deeply emotional beings. Their love and concern extend beyond their herd. If they trust and care for someone, they welcome that person as one of their own.”

She added, “If we humans could truly open our hearts and see elephants as fellow beings, not as animals, but as lives equal to our own, we would discover the gentle, sincere beauty they carry.”
