Boney, Anil, Sanjay Kapoor and Reena Kapoor’s mom, Nirmal, passed away at the age of 90 on May 2, 2025. Nirmal, who faced age-related health issues, took her last breath at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital at 5.45 pm. Her last rites took place at Pawan Hans Crematorium, and stars like Karan Johar, Rani Mukerji, and Farhan Akhtar and more had come to pay their last respect. It has just been a few days since Kapoor household’s matriarch, Nirmal, passed away, and her son, Boney, shared the most moving post on the occasion of Mother’s Day.

Boney paid the most moving and emotional tribute to his late mom, Nirmal. He shared an array of snaps that will move you. He first shared a childhood picture of himself with his mom, cherishing his childhood days. He was seen sitting in a puja ceremony. Boney then shared unseen snaps from asthi visarjan, and the pictures also had Anil, Sanjay, Nirmal’s grandson, Arjun Kapoor, to name a few. In his heartfelt remembrance, Boney penned:
“Maa You were my favorite hello and my hardest goodbye #MothersDay #happymothersday.”
For Boney and the entire Kapoor family, this is the time of grief. The producer shared an important moment from the ash immersion ritual, which is heartbreaking and offered a view into Nirmal’s final rites.
When Boney Kapoor revealed his mom, Nirmal, had advised Sridevi to tie him a rakhi
Boney’s marriage to Sridevi and his separation from Mona Shourie Kapoor were widely covered by all. When Nirmal had got to know about his relationship with Sridevi, Boney, in an interview with Zoom, said that his mom could see (his feelings for Sridevi). On one of the Raksha Bandhans, Nirmal gave a thaali (puja plate) with a rakhi to Sridevi and asked her to tie the producer. Sridevi just went to the room, and Boney told her:
“Don’t worry, don’t bother, keep this thaali here.’ She didn’t understand what the rakhi was all about.”

Boney, after the demise of his mom, Nirmal, on May 2, 2025, released a statement on his social media handle. The producer shared that his mom passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. She lived a full and joyful life, leaving behind four devoted children, loving daughters-in-law, a caring son-in-law, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a lifetime of treasured memories. The note further read:
“Her generous spirit and boundless love touched all who knew her. She will remain in our hearts–forever cherished, forever missed. Boney, Anil, Reena, Sanjay, Sunita, Sandeep, Maheep, Mohit, Akshay, Sonam, Arjun, Rhea, Harshvardhan, Anshula, Janhvi, Shanaya, Khushi, Jahaan, Antara, Anand, Aashita, Karan Thea, Vayu, Ayra, Yuvaan.”
Nirmal Kapoor was a superb matriarch of the Kapoor khaandaan and was mom to Boney Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, and Reena Kapoor Marwah. Her grandchildren are a new set of stars, mainly Sonam Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Harsh Varrdhan, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, and Mohit Marwah. It was in 1955 when Nirmal married movie producer, Surinder Kapoor. Surinder was a distant cousin of Prithviraj Kapoor. Nirmal and Surinder had come to Mumbai as Prithviraj had insisted on the same.
