Well, it was only a few days before the release, when the makers decided that the movie wouldn’t be released in the theatres, and rather will be released on the OTT platform, Amazon Prime Video, on May 16, 2025. The decision was taken as the current situation between the two countries, India and Pakistan has escalated. Well, this has brought Dinesh Vijan’s production house, Maddock Films, into legal trouble.
PVR Cinemas’ CEO confirmed officially filing a lawsuit against Bhool Chuk Maaf’s makers
For the unversed, one of the largest cinema chains, PVR Cinemas has sued Dinesh Vijan’s production house, Maddock Films for Rs. 60 crore, citing major financial losses due to the abrupt cancellation of Bhool Chuk Maaf by the makers. The information was confirmed by PVR CEO Kamal Gianchandani, who said to News9Live that the lawsuit has been officially filed. On the other hand, the makers of the Bhool Chuk Maaf haven’t dropped any official comment on the reports of being sued by PVR Cinemas.
Bhool Chuk Maaf’s official statement on the cancellation of the movie’s theatrical release
It was two days before the release of the movie, Bhool Chuk Maaf that the makers of the movie, issued an official statement, wherein they stated that, given the current tensed-up situation across the nation and security alerts, Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to release the film in their in-house platform, Prime Video, worldwide. The makers also revealed that the movie will be released on May 16, 2025, and while everyone was waiting for the film to be released in the theatres, the spirit of the nation came first, and thus, they decided on an OTT release rather than a theatrical release.

Box-office potential for Bhool Chuk Maaf
As per several reports, Bhool Chuk Maaf was made on a budget of Rs. 50 crore, with Rs. 40 crore for production cost and Rs. 10 crore for advertisement and prints. If the movie had been released at the box office, it reportedly could have earned Rs. 3.5 crore on the first day, and this report is based on estimated ticket sales. Some experts mentioned that the movie could have earned Rs. 40 crore net with its theatrical release but the shift to OTT has ended up causing a Rs. 50-55 crore loss.
