IPL 2025 official broadcasters, JioStar, has supported the BCCI’s decision to suspend the tournament for a week following the escalation in military tensions between India and Pakistan. The tournament was temporarily suspended after the game between PBKS and DC was called off midway due to air raid alerts in nearby regions of Jammu and Pathankot.
JioStar issued a statement on Friday, May 9, saying they wholeheartedly support the BCCI’s decision and are committed to prioritising national interest over all other considerations. The official broadcaster said that they will work with the BCCI to bring back the tournament at an appropriate time.
JioStar also said that they will closely work with all stakeholders to ensure the transition is managed in a seamless manner and everyone involved in the tournament broadcast returns home safely.
“We, at JioStar, wholeheartedly support the BCCI’s decision to suspend TATA IPL 2025 and stand firmly committed to prioritising national interest over all other considerations. At this time, we must stand united with our country, support the government and our armed forces, and extend solidarity & support to the civilians affected. We will work with the BCCI to bring back the tournament at an appropriate time. JioStar will work closely with all stakeholders to ensure the transition is managed in a seamless manner and everyone involved in the tournament broadcast returns home safely,” read the statement.
What BCCI said about IPL suspension
The BCCI announced on May 9 that they will be coming up with the new schedule and venues for the remainder of the tournament in due course.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” read the statement from IPL.
The decision comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. India realiated with ‘Operation Sindhoor’ striking nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
On May 8, Pakistan responded with drone and missile attacks, along with artillery shelling, targeting civilian and military zones in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. India would thwart the attempts by activating its air defence systems, intercepting multiple threats and reportedly shooting down several Pakistani fighter jets, including an AWACS aircraft.
