When Guadagnino’s upcoming project was first announced back in October, Patrick was quick to throw his hat in the ring for the role of Bateman, sharing the news article with his X followers and adding: “My dream.”
On Monday, notable celebrity news X account PopCrave drew attention to Patrick’s comments when they tweeted: “‘The White Lotus’ star Patrick Schwarzenegger is campaigning for lead role in ‘American Psycho’ remake,” and this led to one of his followers taking the opportunity to remind the world of a tweet that Patrick sent last year that hasn’t aged particularly well in light of this campaign.
Reacting to this news on his X account at the time, Patrick apparently tweeted: “I love Austin Butler but he’s already a star. I feel like Luca movies are perfect gateway for a new ish actor to have a breakout performance.”
And with the context of his current campaign in mind, people couldn’t help but be confused by Patrick’s previous insistence that a “new ish” actor should have the role, pointing out that not only is Patrick a nepo baby (in case the last name didn’t give it away, he is the son of the literal Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger), the 31-year-old actor has also been acting steadily since 2016 — although he didn’t really break into the mainstream until his appearance on The White Lotus this year.
And somebody else quote-tweeted the first screenshot with another of Patrick’s now-deleted posts, this time showing the star’s dismay at Austin being linked to multiple new projects.
Patrick has not acknowledged the resurfaced tweets, and BuzzFeed has contacted his rep for comment — let me know your thoughts down below!
