US secretary of state Marco Rubio spoke to S Jaishankar and Shehbaz Sharif after the Pahalgam attack.

The US state department said it is closely monitoring the developments between India and Pakistan after India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in retaliation of the Pahalgam attack. “We are aware of the reports, however we have no assessment to offer at this time. This remains an evolving situation,” the department said.Trump said it’s a shame after he was asked to comment on India’s strike on Pakistan. He said he just learned about it ahead of his Oval Office event Tuesday evening. “It’s a shame. We just heard about it, just as we were walking in the doors of the Oval, just heard about it. I guess people knew something was going to happen based on a little bit of the past, they’ve been fighting for a long time, you know, they’ve been fighting for many, many decades and centuries,” the president said. “I just hope it ends very quickly,” Trump said. India said a total of nine terrorist camps have been precisely targeted in deliberate, restrained and non-escalatory operations. “No Pakistani military installations were struck. India has exercised significant restraint in both the choice of targets and the manner of execution. These actions follow the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national. We remain firmly committed to holding those responsible accountable,” a statement of the defence ministry said. The Indian Embassy in Washington DC said India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has spoken with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio “shortly after” the missile strikes, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pak-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.“India’s actions have been focused and precise. They were measured, responsible and designed to be non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani civilian, economic or military targets have been hit. Only known terror camps were targeted,” a press release from the Embassy of India, Washington DC said.
