The voice cast for the upcoming 3D animated film based on Sir Paul McCartney‘s 2005 children’s book High in the Clouds will be lead by Celine Dion, Himesh Patel (Yesterday) and Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso). According to Variety, the film adaptation will also feature the voices of Idris Elba, Lionel Richie, McCartney’s former Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr, Jimmy Fallon, Clémence Poésy (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Pom Klementieff (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One) and Alain Chabat (Beating Hearts).

The film will be directed by Toby Genkel (The Amazing Maurice), from a script by Jon Crocker (Paddington 2). The story is about the “power of family and freedom of expression through music,” according to Variety, following teenage squirrel Wirral’s journey to “set music free, after accidentally sparks a revolution against Gretsch, the bossy diva-owl who has banned all music from his town.”

It will, of course, also feature original songs written and composed by McCartney and co-produced by McCartney through his MPL Communications shingle, with Oscar winner Michael Giacchino (Inside Out) composing the score.

The news about the animated film comes a month after the first cast announcement for the four upcoming Beatles biopics from director Sam Mendes (Skyfall), The Beatles — A Four Film Cinematic Event. The four separate biopics — one about each member — will be released in theaters in April 2028 with Harris Dickinson slated to play John Lennon, Paul Mescal taking on McCartney, Barry Keoghan slipping onto Starr’s drum stool and Joseph Quinn portraying George Harrison.
