Designers spend months (ideally), weeks (usually), and days (realistically) frantically preparing looks for their dates and muses to wear on the First Monday of May. At last night’s 2025 Met Gala, however, many designers themselves were among the best dressed guests of the evening. Ever heard of putting on your oxygen mask first before assisting others?
Dapper Dan, of course, set the tone with the dandiest of designer outfits. Edvin Thompson of Theophilio looked particularly dashing in a red tuxedo of his own design. And Haider Ackermann looked particularly fabulous himself, in his own design for Tom Ford. Like Ford, who was also in attendance, Ackermann has always been his best models and muses have always been themselves.
Grace Wales Bonner had a fantastic night dressing some of the most stylish men in attendance, from co-chair Sir Lewis Hamilton to photographer Tyler Mitchell, but her very own suit, cut amply but with her signature precision, was especially fantastic. Marc Jacobs, a true sartorial savant, wore another of his remarkable pagoda shouldered suits, made in partnership with the tailor Ralph Fitzgerald. Christopher John Rogers debuted the first-ever example of CJR menswear, a riff on one of the looks from his fall 2025 ready-to-wear collection. Two of the evening’s co-chairs wore their own designs, too: Pharrell Williams in a pearl jacket by Louis Vuitton Men and A$AP Rocky in AWGE, his budding label.
