With the unveiling of the first poster of Sitaare Zameen Par, audiences have received a glimpse into the next film of Aamir Khan — one that marks a rare and notable moment in his career. For the first time in over three decades, the actor will be seen in a sequel, making the upcoming release a significant milestone in his filmography.
Aamir Khan set for first sequel in over three decades with Sitaare Zameen Par
Despite having delivered numerous box office successes and critically acclaimed films, Aamir Khan has never participated in a sequel until now. Sitaare Zameen Par is positioned as a spiritual successor to the much-loved 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, which told the moving story of Ishaan, a dyslexic child guided by a compassionate art teacher, Nikumbh — a role essayed by Aamir himself. The original struck an emotional chord with audiences and has remained a cherished title in Indian cinema.
In Sitaare Zameen Par, Khan returns to the screen after a long hiatus, and this time, the story takes a new direction while preserving the emotional undertone of its predecessor. The film is directed by R. S. Prasanna, known for helming Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, and for producing and directing On A Quest, a biopic on Swami Chinmayananda Saraswathi. Prasanna’s body of work often explores socially relevant themes with a sensitive approach.
Interestingly, the film will also mark the launch of 10 debutant actors — Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar — adding a fresh dimension to the cast. Alongside Aamir, the film stars Genelia Deshmukh in a key role.
Sitaare Zameen Par is produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, with Ravi Bhagchandka also serving as producer. The screenplay is penned by Divy Nidhi Sharma, while the music has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 20, 2025.
