Millena Brando, an 11-year-old Brazilian child actress known for her role in the Netflix series Sintonia, has died following a sudden and critical illness.
Her parents, Thays and Luiz Brando, confirmed that she passed away on Friday, May 2. The reason behind her death remains unknown and is pending further medical investigation.
As reported by People, Millena began experiencing severe headaches, leg pain, fatigue, and loss of appetite on April 24. Her mother, Thays, told Brazilian news outlet G1 that doctors initially suspected dengue fever but did not perform any medical tests. She was prescribed dipyrone and discharged.
However, within days, Millena’s condition worsened. By April 26, she could no longer walk. Despite this, Millena was again discharged after a return to the hospital.
On April 28, she collapsed in the bathroom. Her parents rushed her back to the hospital, where she was admitted. The following morning, she suffered her first cardiac arrest.
A CT scan showed a 5-centimeter mass in her brain. However, since there was no neurologist, doctors could not determine if it was a tumor, cyst, or blood clot. Millena suffered 13 cardiac arrests and several multiple respiratory failures during her hospital stay.
“She never had this before,” Thays said. “One day she had seven respiratory arrests.”
After doctors declared her brain dead, her parents made the heartbreaking decision to remove life support. “We requested that the machines be shut down. We knew she wouldn’t return,” her mother shared.
Thays reported her daughter’s death in a moving Instagram post, referring to her as “a light in our lives.” She wrote, “I’ll love you forever you’ll always be in my heart.
