    Rain, gusty winds likely in Delhi over next 2 hours, orange alert issued

    The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain and thunderstorm alerts for Delhi.

    An orange alert has been issued for Southwest and Southeast Delhi and a yellow alert for the rest of the parts.

    The alerts are valid for the next two hours.

    Several areas in Delhi – NCR, including southwest and south-east Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad, Mathura are under orange alert and are likely to witness light to moderate rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds. Other areas like northwest and north-east Delhi, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Karnal, Panipat, Hisar, Jind , Bijnaur are under yellow alert and are expected to receive light rain or thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds.

    The weather department had earlier predicted that rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and squally or gusty winds would continue over East and Central India until May 6.

    For Northwest India, including Delhi, such weather conditions are expected to persist until May 7, 2025.

    Delhi and its adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) experienced heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hail early morning on May 2, leading to widespread disruption.

    Over 40 flights were diverted and nearly 100 delayed in the aftermath of extreme weather condition.
