As a kick-off to a 21-day special cleansing and beautification drive, the PWD Minister of Delhi, Parvesh Verma, made an announcement on May 3, 2025. This initiative aims to tackle issues such as drain cleaning and silt removal, clearing debris from roads, and enhancing water drainage systems, especially in flood-susceptible areas, ahead of the monsoon season. Additional features of the campaign include cleaning up the illegal occupation of space under flyovers.

Verma, with the BJP member of parliament Bansuri Swaraj, undertook an inspection of a soak pit, storm water drain, and sewer line construction at NDMC. He, along with other officials from NDMC, watched the live coverage of sewer lines boarding the Golf Links- a place which suffered severe water logging last season. He assured that all simple measures would be in place by May 30 so the city can take full advantage of the monsoon.

This 21-day campaign ensures Delhi is fully equipped for the monsoons, showcasing the government’s promise to the people in advancing city structures.

    EMPHASIS ON ACCOUNTABILITY AND EFFICIENCY

Verma highlights to PWD officials the growing problems associated with the personal perception of the department and constituency bodies in the department’s perception. As a result of lengthy road work periods such as partial drain cleaning, the department loses a lot of credibility amongst citizens.

To promote responsibility, Verma cautioned that at any level, negligence will not be accepted.

In addition to the campaign, the installation of new pumps in the main drains, as well as the construction of three new sump wells for better rainwater management, is underway. A super sucker machine has been actively working for the last 10 days to remove silt from the system.

The minister further asked for the supervision of mobile departmental vans to include super-sucker machines and monitoring of pothole repairs.
