Luigi Mangione, the alleged killer of UnitedHealthcatre CEO Brian Thompson, Friday made his first court appearance of the year and soon it became the talk of the town as Luigi was seen in a bulletproof vest. Ahead of his court appearance today, young women packed the Manhattan court to catch a glimpse of the alleged murderer who got more praise than brickbats for his alleged murder of the CEO of the health insurance company. Luigi Mangione‘s fans braved the freezing temperatures and assembled outside the court from early hours on Friday.
Some were sporting Luigi hats and a maroon top as Luigi was last seen in a maroon shirt.
The country saw an unmatched frenzy over Mangione as he was arrested for the killing of Thompson with even prominent voices speaking against the scam of the insurance companies risking that their comments would be interpreted as a justification of murder.
The legal defense fund for Mangione so far raked in over $500,000 and Mangione has even thanked his supporters as his affluent Maryland family has probably distanced itself from the case. “I am overwhelmed by — and grateful for — everyone who has written me to share their stories and express their support. Powerfully, this support has transcended political, racial, and even class divisions,” Mangione said in a statement on the website.
“While it is impossible for me to reply to most letters, please know that I read every one that I receive. Thank you again to everyone who took the time to write. I look forward to hearing more in the future.”
Luigi Mangione hearing
Despite a lot of build-up, the hearing is likely to be mostly procedural with the prosecutors and defense lawyers providing their updates on the status of the case. The judge could also set a deadline for pretrial paperwork or may give a trial date.
Mangione pleaded not guilty to the murder of Thompson though all evidence is against him. In his diary, he even mentioned his plan to target an insurance company chief who makes people suffer by denying their insurnce claims.
