Brawl in New Mexico’s courtroom

A routine hearing in a New Mexico courtroom turned into a complete chaos when three people attacked a murder defendant, leading to a violent brawl with flying fists, kicks, and even a chair.
Video footage captured moment a murder suspect was attacked during a court hearing by his victim’s uncle and stepfather, as NBC news reported.
Alexander Ortiz, 21, was arrested last year for the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend, Alianna Farfan. He has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges.

During a plea hearing at the Bernalillo county courthouse in Albuquerque on January 31, a brawl erupted when a man leaped over the courtroom barrier and charged at Ortiz. Seconds later, another man followed, forcing Ortiz to flee as chaos unfolded.
They now face felony charges for battery and assault on a public official. A woman, also arrested, was seen striking both the defendant and an officer with a chair before law enforcement regained control, Albuquerque TV station KRQE reported Thursday.
The scuffle ended when an officer drew a stun gun and shielded the defendant.
Katina Watson, a New Mexico court official, said that such outbursts are not uncommon, praising the officer’s quick response but offering no mention of new security measures.
