Karoline Leavitt clarified Donald Trump’s Gaza takeover comment and said he meant reconstructing Gaza with the partners in the region.

After President Donald Trump said the United States would take over the Gaza Strip raising several questions about how he proposes to do so, the White House later confirmed that he did not mean putting the boots on the ground. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said US forces won’t be entangled in the issue.
“The president has not committed to putting boots on the ground in Gaza. He has also said the United States is not going to pay for the rebuilding of Gaza. His administration is going to work with our partners in the region to reconstruct this region. This is an out-of-the-box idea. His goal is lasting peace in the Middle East for all people in the region,” Karoline Leavitt said
Trump, during his joint press conference with Benjamin Netanyahu, declined to rule out sending US troops to move Palestinians out of the Gaza Strip. Asked if the White House can rule out sending American troops to Gaza, Leavitt said: “I am saying that the president has not committed to that just yet. He has not made that commitment.”
The US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, has suggested that Donald Trump was only proposing to be responsible for the reconstruction of Gaza, and not claim indefinite possession of the strip. Rubio, at a press conference in Guatemala City on Wednesday, said Trump’s proposal “was not meant as hostile.” Rubio said, “The only thing president Trump has done – very generously, in my view – is offer the United States’ willingness to step in, clear the debris, clean the place up from all the destruction … so that then people can move back in.”

What Donald Trump said about taking over Gaza

“The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it, too. We’ll own it,” Trump told a joint press conference with Netanyahu.
Trump said the United States would get rid of unexploded bombs, “level the site” and remove destroyed buildings, and “create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area.”
But Trump appeared to suggest that it was not Palestinians who would return there.
“It should not go through a process of rebuilding and occupation by the same people that have really stood there and fought for it and lived there and died there and lived a miserable existence there,” he said.
