Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk fired back at Senator Elizabeth Warren after she accused him of wielding unchecked influence over government operations under President Donald Trump.
Criticising Musk in her post, Warren wrote, “No one elected Elon Musk. As Donald Trump allows Musk to access people’s personal information and shut down government funding, Republicans in Washington will also own the consequences. We must do everything in our power to push back and protect people from harm”.
Warren’s criticism sparked a heated online exchange. One user defended Musk’s appointment, arguing that Trump was elected with the expectation that he would bring figures like Musk into government to improve transparency.
The user wrote, “The American people elected Donald Trump knowing he would appoint officials like Elon Musk to lead efforts in revitalizing America by increasing government transparency and efficiency through reforms like the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).”
Musk responded to this post and quipped, “”The interns operating the social media accounts of these politicians are working overtime.”
Musk’s response came amid mounting scrutiny over his role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a White House task force focused on streamlining government operations.
As per the New York Times, reports indicate that DOGE has gained access to sensitive Treasury data, raising concerns about the potential misuse of taxpayer information.
Musk’s response to Warren’s criticism set off a flurry of reactions on X, with supporters mocking Democrats and questioning their outrage. One user commented, “They’re in panic mode .”
Another user pushed back against the hype surrounding DOGE, demanding concrete details on how it would actually improve government efficiency: “I’m not buying it. The American people deserve real action, not just a fancy name change. Where’s the substance behind DOGE? How will it actually make government more transparent and efficient? We need answers, not just buzzwords.”
Some users relished the apparent chaos among Musk’s critics, with one quipping, “It’s hilarious watching them scramble as their regime crumbles.” Another joked about the political aides managing official accounts, saying, “Good ol’ interns takin’ the punches.”
Others pointed out the irony of Democrats venting their frustrations on a platform Musk owns. “They are so mad at you, and there’s nothing they can do about it besides post about it on the platform you own.”
The debate took on a more conspiratorial tone when one user suggested that Musk’s efforts, along with DOGE and Trump ally Kash Patel, would expose wrongdoing within the Democratic Party. “The Democrats must be freaking out behind the scenes. They know they committed crimes. They also know Elon and DOGE and Kash are going to uncover it. It’s only a matter of time!”
While Musk and his supporters argue that DOGE is a necessary effort to cut wasteful spending, critics fear it could become a tool for political and financial manipulation.
