Multiple projectiles launched from Yemen struck near Tel Aviv on Saturday, injuring 14 people, the Israeli military confirmed. The military admitted failing to intercept the projectile, which landed in Bnei Brak, a city within the Tel Aviv district.
Emergency services treated 14 people for minor injuries, including some hurt while seeking shelter and others suffering from anxiety. The Israeli military stated via Telegram: “Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in central Israel, one projectile launched from Yemen was identified and unsuccessful interception attempts were made.”
Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attack, stating their solidarity with Palestinians and vowing to continue such actions until the blockade of Gaza ends.
The Houthis have launched missiles toward Israel since the Gaza conflict began over a year ago in October, although most have been intercepted.
This latest incident follows a Houthi drone attack on December 9 that damaged a residential building in Yavne and a July drone strike in Tel Aviv that killed one Israeli. Israel has responded to these attacks with strikes on Houthi-controlled facilities in Yemen, including ports and energy infrastructure.
Following Israeli airstrikes on Thursday, which reportedly killed nine civilians in Sanaa, rebel leader Abdul Malik al-Huthi said, “The Israeli enemy targeted ports in Hodeida and power stations in Sanaa, and the Israeli aggression resulted in the martyrdom of nine civilian martyrs.” Israel confirmed the strikes, stating they were in response to an intercepted incoming missile.
