Poland, a key NATO member and a popular destination for Indians seeking job and study opportunities, has announced a series of changes to its 2025 work visa policies. These updates come shortly after the US revealed plans to expedite its H-1B visa approval process, signaling a global shift toward streamlining immigration policies for skilled professionals.
Mandatory employment contracts for workers
One of the most significant changes Poland will implement is the introduction of mandatory employment contracts for foreign workers. Under this new policy, workers will no longer be able to join companies under civil law contracts, ensuring greater job security and protection under Polish labor laws. This move aligns with Poland’s broader effort to create a more transparent and regulated labor market.
Increased work permit fees
As part of the overhaul, work permit fees will be adjusted to reflect the minimum wage. The proposed fees include €80 for a National Visa (Type D) and €40 for Temporary Residence Permits, marking a notable increase in costs for workers applying for employment-related visas. This change aims to better align the visa system with Poland’s economic landscape.
Visa requirements for Colombian Nationals
In another significant development, Poland will impose new visa requirements on Colombian nationals starting August 15, 2024. Regardless of the duration of their stay, Colombian nationals will now need a visa for employment purposes, bringing them in line with other non-EU workers.
Draft law on visa and residence permits
Poland is also working on a new legislative draft that seeks to simplify visa and residence permit processes. The draft proposes enhanced monitoring of foreign workers and penalties for non-compliance, aiming to improve efficiency and address the challenges of illegal immigration.
Increased demand for skilled workers
Poland continues to see a rising demand for skilled professionals, particularly in fields like IT, healthcare, engineering, skilled trades, and transportation. This demand is expected to create additional job opportunities for foreign workers, making Poland an attractive destination for global talent.
New visa types for various sectors
Poland is introducing new visa categories to accommodate different types of foreign workers:

  • National Visa (Type D): For employment exceeding 90 days.
  • Seasonal Work Visa: Valid for up to 9 months, primarily in agriculture, tourism, and construction.
  • EU Blue Card: For highly skilled workers, providing long-term stay and expedited residency options.
  • Temporary Residence Permit: For individuals with job offers or business engagements, valid for up to 3 years.
  • Business Visa: For entrepreneurs investing in businesses in Poland.

With these changes, Poland is positioning itself as a hub for skilled labor, catering to the growing demand for professionals across various sectors. As the country tightens its labor regulations, foreign workers can expect more stability and opportunities for long-term residency in the country.
