Among the appointments that President-elect Donald Trump made so far, Matt Gaetz for attorney general is the most controversial one as Republicans too don’t like him. The 42-year-old has been under investigation by the House of Representatives’ ethics committee over allegations he was part of a scheme that led to the sex trafficking of a 17-year-old girl.
But more sensational claims have surfaced on social media including one of a ‘dead roommate’. According to a 2016 report, Matt Gaetz’s roommate at Florida State University was reportedly found dead under suspicious circumstances while they were undergraduate students. The death was investigated as a possible homicide but was ruled as a suicide.
Matt Gaetz resigned from Congress Wednesday “effective immediately” hours after he was announced as the next attorney general. The resignation came just in time when the House Ethics Committee was preparing to release a report on sexual misconduct and drug allegations against him. His resignation will end the investigation that started in April 2021.
‘Gaetz won’t get confirmed, everyone knows that’
Gaetz will need a Senate majority vote to become attorney general and former Speaker Kevin McCarthy said everyone is certain that he won’t get confirmed by the Senate.
Democratic Senator John Fetterman described Matt Gaetz’s nomination as a “god-tier” level of trolling by Tryno to “own the libs in perpetuity”. “I mean, I would describe it as god-tier level trolling, that has triggered a full-on China Syndrome to own the libs in perpetuity,” Fetterman told an NBC reporter. Elon Musk shared the viral clip of Fetterman’s reaction.
“I was shocked at the nomination,” Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) told Punchbowl News. “This is why the Senate’s advise-and-consent process is so important. I’m sure that there will be many, many questions raised at Mr. Gaetz’s hearing.” “Are you s***ting me?” Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) also told the Huffington Post when pressed for his reaction.
