Tapper asked Bottoms why Harris has not been sitting for regular interviews or fielding questions, especially in comparison to her political rival and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.Bottoms responded, “Well, Jake, she’s done interviews,” stressing that Harris is indeed a very busy person, serving both as vice president and a candidate.
“And I know that we would love—or you would love—to see her sit down every single day with CNN and do interviews. But it’s that she’s a very busy person. She’s the vice president as well as a candidate,” she said.
Bottoms further said that if Harris is elected president of the United States, she would use the power of the pen to ensure that reproductive freedoms are protected.
“And we heard her today talk about her views on these policies,” Bottoms continued. “It may not be in the format that the media would like. It may not be that she’s sitting down doing a one-on-one interview, but we heard her today in Georgia talk about her stance on reproductive freedom and how, if elected president, she would use the power of the pen to ensure that these freedoms are protected,” she said.
Kamala has drawn fire from Trump recently over her lack of engagement with the press. The former president has on numerous occasions accused her of avoiding interviews claiming that the VP is “not smart enough” to do a press conference.
Harris and her running mate, governor Tim Walz, have conducted 15 interviews since last month, according to Fox News. In contrast, Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance, have completed 55 interviews during the same period.
Harris has not held a formal press conference since becoming the Democratic nominee, while Trump has held several in recent weeks, according to Fox News.
