The tweet in question referenced Musk, former independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr, and former US representative Tulsi Gabbard.It highlighted Harris’s 2019 commitment to using the Department of Justice (DOJ) and law enforcement to “hold social media platforms responsible” for “misinformation” as part of a broader “fight against this threat to our democracy.”
Musk responded directly: “Kamala wants to destroy your right to free speech under the Constitution.”
Previously, both Musk and Kennedy had expressed concerns that Harris might attempt to “shut down” X if it failed to comply with government oversight. Their apprehension was sparked by an older video where Harris criticized the unregulated power of social media platforms, including then-President Trump’s use of Twitter. Kennedy’s interpretation of Harris’s comments, however, seems to have misidentified the target of her criticism.
Musk further commented on Harris’s video, saying, “This is what she genuinely believes. Free speech is fundamental to democracy, and the Democratic Party (Kamala is merely a figurehead) aims to undermine it.”
Additionally, Musk responded to reports that former President Donald Trump is considering creating a government efficiency commission inspired by his own ideas. Musk described this proposal as a potential opportunity for “tremendous prosperity for America.”
