George Clooney recently praised US president Joe Biden for selflessly quitting the race and almost compared him to George Washington when he was asked to comment about Biden’s decision that followed Clooney’s stinging New York Times op-ed. Clooney’s public praise for Biden made British broadcaster Piers Morgan wonder whether Biden and Clooney ever spoke after the disaster. Biden reportedly never spoke with Nancy Pelosi for engineering his ouster.Clooney and Biden are also long-time friends and, according to Piers Morgan, the dagger that Clooney delivered was brutal.
In a New York Post op-ed, Piers Morgan wrote that Clooney was right in his assessment that Biden was a dead man walking but the way he made it public in an op-ed in the New York Times — encouraging other prominent Democrats to take their stand against Biden’s candidacy was just like a “cold-blooded contract killer”.
“What he did to Biden was a political hit job of the most ruthless kind. He took a cold, calculating sniper aim at his friend and metaphorically sprayed him with a hail of bullets designed to leave his career as dead as a dodo. And he did it because he knew aged, decrepit Biden was now a washed-up electoral loser on course for a crushing defeat in the election, and he wanted the whole world to know that too,” Piers Morgan wrote.
Clooney in his NYT piece wrote that it’d devastating to say that Joe Biden was not going to win the election in November. “It’s devastating to say it but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big f**king deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate … we are not going to win in November with this president.”
Calling Clooney’s present damage-control of a comparison between Biden and Washington flawed, Piers Morgan said Biden did not make a selfless decision to quit the race. “He was bullied, shamed and humiliated into doing it by his so-called friends like you,” Morgan wrote.
Biden has openly expressed his disappointment with party veterans for pushing him out of the race. Though Nancy Pelosi claimed she had no hand in Biden’s ouster, she admitted that she loses sleep wondering whether Biden is angry with her.
