Hillary Clinton, the former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, had to cancel her appearance at a high-profile fundraiser for Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz in the Hamptons after testing positive for Covid-19, according to a report by Page Six.
The event, held at the Sag Harbor home of renowned art collectors Lisa and Richard Perry, saw former President Bill Clinton stepping in for his wife, alongside second gentleman Doug Emhoff.
The fundraiser, which was one of the last major events in the New York area before the upcoming election, drew significant attention, with tickets at the highest tier going for $100,000 each. The event’s invitation emphasized its importance, saying that it was “not to be missed.” The event’s chairs included notable figures such as Sharon and Jon Corzine, Crystal McCrary McGuire and Ray McGuire, and Laurie Tisch, reported Page Six.
Despite Hillary Clinton’s absence, the event was a success, contributing to a combined fundraising effort that brought in over $2 million in just four days. Earlier that day, another Democratic fundraiser was held at the home of Michael Kempner, CEO of MikeWorldWide, who is known for his strong support of the Clintons. This back-to-back fundraising effort highlighted the strong enthusiasm and support for Vice President Harris as the election approaches.
Hillary Clinton, 76, had recently received a standing ovation at the Democratic National Convention, further underscoring her continued influence in the party. Unfortunately, several attendees at the convention in Chicago later tested positive for Covid-19, which may have contributed to Clinton’s diagnosis.
