Britain King Charles will visit Southport in the northwest region of England on Tuesday to pay tribute to the victims and families of those who witnessed a mass stabbing last month, as per an announcement from the Buckingham Palace.
This visit comes three weeks after the July 29 attack that claimed the lives of three young girls, left several others injured and sparked nationwide riots in the United Kingdom. The incident ignited unrest fueled by online misinformation, which falsely attributed the attack to an Islamist migrant.
“His Majesty The King will travel to Southport to express his continued support for those affected by the 29th July attack and the riot which followed in the town, and to thank frontline emergency staff for their ongoing work serving local people,” the palace said in a statement.
During his visit, Charles is scheduled to meet with some of the children who survived the attack on the Taylor Swift-themed dance class, as well as their families.
Earlier on August 10, the monarch made his first public statement since the recent unrest, calling for mutual respect and understanding following the outbreak of far-right riots targeting Muslims and migrants.
In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, a spokesman said: “It remains His Majesty’s hope that shared values of mutual respect and understanding will continue to strengthen and unite the nation.”
The police have charged a 17-year-old male, identified as Axel Rudakubana, a British national, with “three counts of murder, 10 counts of attempted murder and one of possession of a bladed article.”
