“First of all, I don’t think I have ever been asked a question in such a horrible manner, the first question. You don’t even say Hello! how are you? Are you with ABC? Because I think they ae a fake news network and a terrible network. And I think it’s disgraceful that I came here in good spirit. I love the Black population of this country. I have done so much for the Black population of the country, including employment…” Donald Trump said.
“It was very rude introduction,” the former president said adding that he was invited to the convention under a false pretense that his opponent — whether Biden or Kamala — would be here. “And I don’t see my opponent here,” Trump said.
“I have been the best president for the Black population since Abraham Lincoln,” Trump said.
On a question on whether Trump supports the Republican term of referring to Kamala Harris as a DEI hire, Trump said, “How do you define DEI?” He had a small altercation after the journalist said DEI stands for diversity, equity and inclusion and Trump wanted a full definition. Then Trump was asked whether he thought vice president Kamala Harris was only on the ticket because she is a Black woman.
“I have known her for a long time indirectly, not directly very much. She was always of Indian heritage and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black,” Trump said.
“So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?” he went on. “She was Indian all the way, and all of a sudden, she made a turn and she became a Black person.”
