A day after the Obamas supported Kamala Harris as the presidential candidate for the Democratic party, reports claimed that President Joe Biden‘s quick endorsement of Kamala Harris was, in fact, a big ‘f*** you’ message to the prominent leaders of the party who wanted him out following the CNN debate — and that included Barack Obama as well. New York Post quoted sources as saying that it was Joe Biden’s big ‘f*** you’ — the message being: “If I’m out, then I am endorsing her”.
Biden saw this final move as a way to assert some “control over his ouster”, the report said.
Does Obama want someone else as Democratic candidate?
The report said that Obama, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and New York senator Chuck Schumer wanted to hold a “mini primary” which Obama believed Kamala Harris would not win.
Obama, it has been reported, wanted Arizona senator and former astronaut Mark Kelly “at the top of the ticket” at the convention.
Speculations were rife as to why the Obamas were not endorsing Kamala Harris even after five days after Biden opted out of the race. Reports claimed that Obama was did not want to overshadow Biden’s moment and hence he did not mention Harris in the social media post that he wrote for Biden when Biden made the major announcement. Then Biden’s address to the press was scheduled for which Obama waited.
But then on Friday, Obama made a social media post in which he said he and Michelle called Kamala Harris earlier this week and extended their support. “Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend @KamalaHarris . We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support. At this critical moment for our country, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you’ll join us,” Obama posted on X.
“I’m so proud of my girl, Kamala. Barack and I are so excited to endorse her as the Democratic nominee because of her positivity, sense of humor, and ability to bring light and hope to people all across the country. We’ve got your back,” Michelle Obama said.
