Kamala Harris Thursday released the first video of her presidential campaign and it featured Beyonce’s song Freedom. CNN earlier reported that Harris’ team reached out to Beyonce to get approval to use that song throughout her presidential campaign. And it was allowed. The CNN report said the approval was quick from Beyonce and when Kamala Harris made her first official visit to her campaign headquarters Monday — a day after Joe Biden pulled out of the race — she made her entrance with Freedom as the background.
“In this election, we each face a question. What kind of a country do we want to live in? There are some people who think we should be a country of chaos, of fear, of hate. But us, we choose something different. We choose freedom,” Kamala said in the campaign video as Beyonce’s song played.

“The freedom not just to get by, but get ahead. The freedom to be safe from gun violence. The freedom to make decisions about your own body. We choose a future where no child lived in poverty, where we can all afford health care, where no one is above the law. We believe in the promise of America and we are ready to fight for it. Because when we fight, we win,” Kamala concluded for the first Harris for President campaign video.
Does this mean Beyonce is endorsing Kamala Harris?
Beyonce has not officially endorsed Kamala Harris but giving her song as she has a strict clearance guideline around her music indicates that she is supporting Kamala Harris. Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, endorsed Harris on Sunday, shortly after Biden’s announcement.
“New, Youthful, Sharp , , energy !!!!” Knowles posted on her Instagram with a photo of herself alongside Harris. “Putting personal Ego , power and fame aside . That is the definition of a great leader, . Thank you, President Biden for your service and your leadership . Go Vice President Kamala Harris for President. Let’s Go”
Beyonce has never shied away from supporting Democratic candidates. In 2013, she sang the National Anthem at the inauguration of Barack Obama. In 2016, Beyonce and Jay-Z headlined a pre-election concert for Hillary Clinton.
“I want my daughter to grow up seeing a woman lead our country and knowing that her possibilities are limitless,” Beyoncé said at the time. “And that’s why I am with her.”
