Six foreign nationals were found dead in a luxury hotel room in central Bangkok, according to Thailand‘s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. The incident occurred at the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel in the upscale Pathum Wan district. Police suspect that the individuals were poisoned, as there were no signs of a struggle or theft.
“There were no signs of a struggle,” Srettha told a press conference.”We need to conduct an autopsy to see if they had ingested anything,” he added
The prime minister confirmed that all six deceased were Vietnamese, with two of them holding dual US nationality. The bodies were found by cleaning personnel who entered the room on the fifth floor to tidy up at approximately 4:30 pm local time. The staff immediately reported the case upon making the grim discovery.
Srettha arrived on the scene shortly after and mentioned the possibility of a seventh Vietnamese person being involved in the incident.
Thiti Sangsawang, the chief of Bangkok’s metropolitan police bureau, said that the guests had failed to check out of the hotel that afternoon. An initial investigation revealed no signs of physical trauma associated with an altercation or robbery. However, the findings indicated that the entire group of six individuals had consumed a poisonous substance.
The police are currently investigating the motives behind the incident, with Thiti saying, “What we can prove now is that they are not dead from suicide but from the killing of others.”
Earlier, a police officer speaking anonymously denied initial reports of a shooting, saying that the investigation is currently focused on a “link with a toxic substance.”
Some of the foreigners appeared to be on their first trip to the country, while others seemed to be return visitors. The police are still investigating the scene and cause of death, according to their statement.
