Former first lady Melania Trump did not turn up at the first night of the Republican National Convention Monday while Trump made a triumphant entry some 48 hours after the assassination bid. Model and influencer Amber Rose, however, mentioned Melania on the stage as she recounted a meeting with Melania and Donald Trump. “The first lady was gracious and smart, with a smile that will brighten up any room,” Amber Rose said.
Earlier it was reported that though Melania was largely missing from Trump’s campaign rallies, she would be present at the convention like she was in 2016 and 2020. But on day one, her name was not there on the list of speakers — in a departure from decades-long tradition that the wives of the Republican presidential candidates deliver remarks.
The Trump family members sitting with the former president on the first night of the convention are all slated to deliver remarks in the coming days: Trump’s sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump; his daughter-in-law and Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump; and Kimberly Guilfoyle, Donald Trump Jr.’s fiancée. They were seated Monday night with Trump’s daughter Tiffany Trump and her husband, Michael Boulos, neither of whom are scheduled to deliver remarks at the convention, Washington Post reported. Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner were not seated with Trump.
Melania issued a statement after the assassination bid and said when she saw that violent bullet strike Donald Trump, she realized that her and Barron’s life was on the brink of a devastating change.
“A monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine attempted to ring out Donald’s passion — his laughter, ingenuity, love of music and inspiration. The core facts of my husband’s life — his human side — were buried below the political machine. Donald, the generous and caring man who I have been through the best of times and the worst of times,” she wrote.
