A police officer on Thursday shot and killed a man who allegedly killed his 8-year-old younger brother after stabbing him and his parents in New York, according to the police.
A 20-year-old suspect, who already killed his brother, was found holding his father in a headlock over the kitchen ink with a knife to his throat. The police revealed that they were called to an extremely small unit inside the 147-25 94th avenue, New York Post reported.
The police received call was just after 5 pm when a bleeding woman staggered out of a Queens apartment building, begging for help, according to NYPD Chief John Chell.
“They gave repeated commands, both in English and Spanish, to drop the knife. He did not. One officer fired one round, striking the target, saving that man’s life,” said Chell.
All the four were taken to hospital where both the brothers sccumbed to injuries while their parents were being treated, as per the New York Post.
According to police, an 8-month-old baby was also in the apartment at the time of the incident, but the baby was unharmed.
“Just a reminder of being a New York City police officer, what they have to walk into and decisions they have to make quickly. And by making those decisions, they saved two lives tonight,” Chell said.
Police are still working to figure out whether the suspect and his young victim were brothers or stepbrothers, or how the “tragic and horrific event” unfolded, according to the New York Post.
