NEW DELHI: Gohar Ali Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said that Imran Khan, the PTI founder who is currently detained in Adiala Jail, has not been offered any deal and is prepared to forgive all injustices for the sake of Pakistan, according to a report by Pakistan’s the Express Tribune.
After meeting the former Prime Minister of Pakistan in Adiala Jail, Gohar Ali Khan spoke to reporters outside the prison.Highlighting the need for dialogue and Gohar said, “We have repeatedly said that there should be talks. The PTI founder has not been offered any deal. He is ready to forgive all injustices done to him to move the country forward,” the Express Tribune reported.
Gohar Ali Khan also mentioned that lawyers have met with Imran Khan in jail and are pursuing legal action based on their recommendations. He highlighted that Imran Khan has not been allowed to communicate with his sons and urged that he be permitted to speak with his children every other week.
In his comments, the PTI chairman criticized Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China, stating, “Despite the visit to China, Pakistan has gained nothing. The government is failing to meet its expenses.” He called for the judiciary to expedite the cases against Imran Khan and underscored the importance of advancing negotiations.
On June 9, an aircraft carrying a banner that read ‘Release Imran Khan’ was seen flying over the stadium during the India versus Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup 2024 in New York. PTI shared a video of the incident on their X handle, captioning it ‘Release Imran Khan.’
Imran Khan, aged 71, who served as Pakistan’s Prime Minister from 2018 to 2022, has been imprisoned in Adiala Jail since August 2023 on several charges, including the Toshakhana case, cipher case, and un-Islamic marriage case.
Pakistan held its 12th general elections in February, but the fairness of the polls has been questioned, particularly by the PTI, which has alleged rigging and an unfair playing field. Despite losing its election symbol, PTI-supported independent candidates won the majority of seats. However, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and other smaller parties have formed the government.
