NEW DELHI: A baby girl was delivered through an emergency C-section from the womb of her mother, Sabreen Al-Sakani, who was killed along with her husband and daughter in an Israeli attack in in Rafah, Gaza, . The strike claimed the lives of 19 people, including 13 children from a single family, according to Palestinian health officials.
The newborn, weighing 1.4 kg, is stable and gradually improving under the care of Dr Mohammed Salama, according to a Reuters report.
The baby was placed in an incubator with a tape across her chest bearing the words “The baby of the martyr Sabreen Al-Sakani.” Malak, Sakani’s young daughter who was also killed in the strike, had wanted to name her new sister Rouh, meaning spirit in Arabic. Dr Salama stated that the baby would remain in the hospital for three to four weeks before being released to family members.
The 13 children and two women were killed in a separate strike on the Abdel Aal family’s home. An Israeli military spokesperson, when asked about the casualties in Rafah, stated that various militant targets were struck in Gaza, including military compounds, launch posts, and armed individuals. Saqr Abdel Aal, a Palestinian man who lost his wife, children, and entire family in the attack, grieved over the body of a child wrapped in a white shroud, emphasizing that all the victims were women and children.
