NEW DELHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf‘s core committee has expressed strong concerns over the delay in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa senate elections, labeling it as a direct violation of the constitution and a threat to the unity of the nation. The committee accused the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of neglecting the democratic process by delaying the announcement of senate election winners.
During a recent meeting, the PTI core committee discussed the legal cases involving former Prime Minister Imran Khan, criticising the slow progress of judicial proceedings against him. They demanded the immediate release of Imran Khan, the party’s founder, highlighting the need for a fair and timely judicial process.
The committee also condemned the postponement of senate polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, denouncing it as a hindrance to democracy and an infringement on the voting rights of citizens. Additionally, they criticised the alleged harassment of judges in the higher judiciary through questionable means and called for strict action against those responsible for such actions.
Furthermore, the PTI’s core committee reiterated their demand for the formation of a full court to address concerns raised by six judges of the Islamabad high court. They called for transparency in court proceedings through live telecasts and emphasised the importance of resolving election petitions promptly.
In response to the Election Commission’s failure to restore the party’s electoral symbol, the PTI core committee urged the electoral watchdog to rectify this issue, stating that all necessary details had been provided regarding intra-party polls. They also announced their support for a mass movement organised by the Grand Alliance after Eid-ul-Fitr, with the first public gathering scheduled in Balochistan’s Pishin district on April 13.
The committee strongly criticised the arrest and detention of PTI members, including prominent figures like Aliya Hamza and Sanam Javed, calling for their immediate release. In a bid to streamline decision-making processes, PTI established a 14-member political committee, with Omar Ayub appointed as chair, to inform and consult with the core committee on key matters.
The PTI central media department, citing instructions from founder chairman PM Imran Khan, announced the appointment of key leaders to the political committee, affirming their role in decision-making processes within the party.
The PTI’s core committee remains steadfast in their commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring the fair treatment of party members and leaders in the political landscape.
