NEW DELHI: Israeli forces in Gaza have killed over 170 gunmen during their days-long raid at the main hospital in the Palestinian enclave. The troops entered the hospital on Monday and have since been searching the area, uncovering weapons and terror infrastructure.
The military operation at Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City led to the elimination of terrorists, questioning of suspects, and discovery of weapons.
“Thus far, the forces eliminated more than 170 terrorists in the area of the hospital, questioned over 800 suspects, and located numerous weapons and terror infrastructure,” the military said.
The hospital, once the largest in Gaza, now serves as a vital healthcare facility in the north, despite being a target for detainment of militants. It has also served as a shelter for displaced civilians.
The military has detained more than 350 militants from Hamas and Islamic Jihad at the hospital, marking the largest capture since the conflict began.
Hamas denies the accusations of using the hospital for military purposes, claiming the casualties are civilians.
Despite facing criticism, Israel maintains its stance on preventing harm to non-combatants.
This operation follows previous raids where tunnels were discovered, allegedly used by Hamas. The military asserts the necessity of these actions to safeguard against threats in the region.
