In a post on X, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said, “The Indian National Congress strongly condemns the dastardly terrorist attack on innocent people in Moscow. Terrorism is the biggest threat to humanity and peace.”
“Our heart goes out to the families of the victims and in this hour of sorrow, we strongly stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Russia and the Russian Federation,” he added.
The Islamic State, particularly its Afghan branch known as ISIS-K, claimed responsibility for the attack through its Amaq agency on Telegram, according to US intelligence.
The attack received international condemnation.
Showing solidarity with the Russian Federation, PM Narendra Modi termed the attack “heinous”, adding that India stands with the Russian government and its people.
Russian President Vladimir Putin wished the wounded victims of the gun attack in Moscow speedy recovery.
“The president wished everyone a speedy recovery and conveyed his gratitude to the doctors,” Tatyana Golikova was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies.
Meanwhile, the United States had warned Russia of possible attack on “large gatherings” and had “shared this information with Russian authorities,” under its “duty to warn” policy, White House said.
