NEW DELHI: A man was arrested in Russia’s Moldova on Sunday for throwing two Molotov cocktails at the embassy during the presidential election voting.
Media in Moldova, bordering Ukraine, reported the embassy was attacked with Molotov cocktails. No injuries were reported.
“A man threw two containers of flammable substances over the fence of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau,” police said in a statement.
According to authorities, a 54-year-old Moldovan man, who claimed he has Russian citizenship was promptly detained by the police for questioning.
“He justified his action by some dissatisfaction he has with the actions of the Russian authorities,” said police.
The ongoing elections, scheduled from Friday to Sunday, are expected to secure President Vladimir Putin another six-year term amid the fallout from Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
Moldova, a nation of 2.6 million situated between Ukraine and Romania also protested Moscow’s decision to open several polling stations in separatist Transnistria , urging that voting be limited to the Russian embassy in Chisinau.
