NEW DELHI: Over 100 Palestinians were killed on Thursday after Israeli troops allegedly opened fire at ‘several people’ after feeling under threat, news agency Reuters reported.
According to the health authorities in Gaza, the Israeli fire claimed 104 Palestinian lives and wounded 280 who were waiting for aid near Gaza city.
Gaza health ministry spokesperson Ashraf al-Qidra said that the incident took place at al-Nabusi roundabout west of Gaza City in the northern part of the enclave.
He further said that the medical teams were unable to cope with the volume and severity of injuries from dozens of wounded people who arrived at al-Shifa hospital.
“Trucks full of aid came too close to some army tanks that were in the area and the crowd, thousands of people, just stormed the trucks. The soldiers fired at the crowd as people came too close to the tanks,” AFP quoted a witness as saying.
Hamas also warned in a statement that the incident could lead to the failure of talks aimed at a deal on a truce and hostage release.
“The negotiations conducted by the movement’s leadership are not an open process at the expense of the blood of our people,” it said, referring to Thursday’s deaths and saying Israel would be responsible for any failure of the talks.
In a statement, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ office condemned the incident against the people who waited for the aid trucks at Nabulsi roundabout.
Since October 7 the war has caused around 1,200 people and seizing 253 hostages from Israel. Meanwhile, Gaza health authorities said that 30,000 people in Palestine have been killed in the enclave, with thousands of others believed to be buried under rubble.
