Two foreigners die near Everest base camp due to high altitude sickness – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Authorities reported the deaths of a Chinese male and a UK female tourist near the Mount Everest base camp, likely due to high altitude sickness. The Everest base camp, situated at 18,000 feet, presents challenges such as breathing troubles for many visitors.
26-year-old Chinese tourist Woniswo Dong was discovered dead in his hotel room at Gorakshep near the Everest base camp on Wednesday.Dong had spent a night moving upward after arriving at Lukla airport from Kathmandu.
Elizabeth Diaro, a 42-year-old tourist from the UK, fainted upon reaching her hotel during her ascent to the base camp from Lukla airport. She passed away shortly after on Thursday.
Authorities suspect that both deaths may be attributed to high altitude sickness. The bodies are being transported to Kathmandu for post-mortem examinations, as confirmed by Anil Kumar Mishra, police inspector at the Solukhumbu district police office.
