NEW DELHI: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) slammed imprisoned jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his party for seeking United States’ involvement in the alleged “rigging” of the February 8 polls saying, “it goes against Pakistan’s sovereignty.”
On Friday, PML-N leader Marriyum Aurangzeb in a press conference with party leader Ataullah Tarar, strongly opposed Khan’s move to involve the US in the country’s elections, saying, “Absolutely not, we are not slaves! It goes against Pakistan’s sovereignty,” as reported by The Express Tribune website.
According to The News International, the senior PML-N leader criticized PTI and said, “According to you, the United States had conspired and overthrown your government.”
Aurangzeb also accused the PTI of attempting to spread anarchy in the country and advised them to address their rigging complaints through legal channels. She suggested approaching the Election Commission and, if necessary, pursuing the matter in the high court and Supreme Court.
With the general election results still uncertain about which party will form the government at the Centre, independent candidates, largely supported by PTI, won 93 out of the 265 National Assembly seats.
PTI’s main rivals, PML-N and PPP, announced a post-poll alliance earlier this week. In response to the alleged stolen mandate and rigging accusations, Khan’s party initiated nationwide protests, prompting prohibitory orders in Pakistan’s capital on Saturday.
