Historical drama “Oppenheimer” led nominations for the Bafta Film Awards on Thursday, securing 13 nods. Sex-charged gothic comedy “Poor Things” received 11 nods while Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon”, about the murders of members of the Osage Nation in the 1920s, got nine nominations. The three movies will all compete for the ceremony’s top prize – best film – alongside courtroom drama “Anatomy of a Fall” and “The Holdovers”, a comedy set at a boys boarding school.Box office phenomenon “Barbie“, starring Margot Robbie, was nominated in five categories. Austria’s Beer Party, founded largely as a joke, hopes to provide some kick against more established parties as its leader on Thursday announced plans to run in this year’s parliamentary elections. The party, set up in 2015, is known for its light-hearted projects but has taken serious swipes at the political establishment and those embroiled in corruption and other scandals. It has campaigned on issues as frivolous as installing public beer fountains in Vienna, but also on improving the public health system. Party leader Dominik Wlazny, a 37-year-old doctor and rock musician, came third in 2022’s presidential election with 8.3%.

Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger was briefly detained at Munich airport Wednesday for failing to declare a luxury watch. Criminal proceedings were initiated against the “Terminator” star for tax evasion. Customs rules in Munich require travellers from outside the European Union to declare any goods from outside the EU that are valued at more than 430 euro (about $467).
