Former US President Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr, has suggested that conservative pundit Tucker Carlson could be a potential vice presidential running mate for his father. In an interview with cable channel Newsmax, Trump Jr said that the option of Carlson being a running mate was “on the table”. He highlighted their shared views on issues such as ending ongoing conflicts, expressing his enthusiasm for such a partnership.
Tucker Carlson, who previously hosted a prime-time show on Fox News, has recently launched his own media company and video show on the social media platform X. While there have been suggestions of Carlson considering a run for public office, he has dismissed the idea, stating that it would be difficult to envision.
Donald Trump himself has expressed admiration for Carlson, describing him as having “great common sense”. During a recent town hall, Trump hinted that he had already made a decision on his choice for the vice presidential position.
Indian-American tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy is also reported to be in reckoning for Trump’s VP pick. After withdrawing from Republican primaries, Ramaswamy has endorsed Trump as GOP presidential candidate. During a New Hampshire rally, Trump hinted at future role for Ramaswamy in his government.
Donald Trump has registered a significant victory in Iowa’s caucuses, securing an estimated 20 out of 40 delegates. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley are also expected to receive a notable number of delegates. This victory further solidifies Trump’s influence within the Republican Party and reaffirms the strength of his right-wing message.
US President Joe Biden has acknowledged Trump’s success in Iowa, referring to him as the “front runner” of the opposition. Biden characterized the upcoming 2024 contest as a battle between himself and the “extreme MAGA Republicans”, emphasizing the ongoing ideological divide in American politics.
