NEW DELHI: A US-bound All Nippon Airways plane had to turn back to Tokyo‘s Haneda airport after a heavily drunk passenger bit a cabin attendant during the flight, according to the Japanese carrier.
The incident occurred on a flight bound for Seattle, with 159 passengers on board. The passenger, a 55-year-old man believed to be American bit the crew member‘s arm, causing minor injuries.
The flight returned to Haneda airport, where the man was handed to the police. During the investigation, the passenger, who had taken a sleeping pill, claimed to have no recollection of the incident.
A series of incidents in Japanese airlines have sparked worries about aviation safety in Japan. Recently, another ANA aircraft had to reverse course due to the discovery of a crack in the cockpit window of a Boeing 737-800.
In a separate incident, a near-collision between a Japan Airlines plane and a smaller coastguard aircraft at Haneda airport on January 2 resulted in the death of five individuals on the coastguard plane.
