Andy Cohen blasted Martina Navratilova’s viral anti-surrogacy opinion as ignorant and wrong.
The TV personality — who has welcomed two children via surrogate — addressed the former tennis player’s controversial comments on Tuesday’s episode of SiriusXM’s “Andy Cohen Live.”
“What Martina tweeted was, ‘Surrogacy is wrong.’ She said, ‘Surrogacy is just wrong. Sometimes you can’t have it all.’ Well, here’s the deal, that’s just ill-informed and dumb,” he said. “And yes, we will talk about it at the reunion.”
“Basically, she’s uninformed on the issue, so I just think she’s not informed,” he continued. “It’s a bad take. What can I tell you? She’s just wrong.”
Cohen mentioned he asked Navratilova’s wife, “Real Housewives of Miami” star Julia Lemigova, about the comment when she appeared on the July 30 episode of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.”
“Julia and I have discussed this offline. Martina will not be at the Miami reunion, so I will not be asking Martina about this.”
Despite the “RHOM” star trying to defend her wife by telling Cohen, 57, that her comment was “out of context” he didn’t buy it and still condemned the athlete’s tweet.
Lemigova, 53, clarified on “WWHL” that she feels very differently than Navratilova, 68, on the topic of surrogacy when the host grilled her about her wife’s contentious tweet.
“Well, you know, Martina and I share a bed, but we don’t share a brain. And we not always agree on different views, but I believe in surrogacy,” she said. “And I completely disagree with her comments.”
Reps for Navratilova were not immediately available to Page Six for comment.
Surrogacy is a topic very close to the Emmy award-winning producer. He welcomed both kids via a gestational surrogate, which means that the carrier does not provide their own egg for fertilization unlike traditional surrogacy, per the New York Department of Health.
His son, Benjamin was welcomed in LA before gestational surrogates were legal in NY. Cohen “helped” get the practice legalized in NY before welcoming his daughter, Lucy, in April 2022.
The “Daddy Diaries” author shared on SiriusXM’s “Jeff Lewis Live” in June 2022, that, despite using different surrogates, Ben and Lucy are “biological siblings” thanks to the gestational surrogacy.
Although Cohen has shared that both his children share the same egg donor, he has never publicly revealed the donor’s identity.
