Actor Ibrahim Ali Khan recently opened up about one of the most harrowing nights of his life. He recalled shooting for his debut film ‘Nadaaniyan’ when his father-actor Saif Ali Khan, was stabbed during an attempted burglary at their Mumbai home.

Speaking in an interview with GQ India, Ibrahim shared how the incident deeply affected him and changed his bond with his father forever.

“I was shooting a night shift. He was stabbed around 2:30 am, and I was informed at 5:30 am,” Ibrahim recounted.

“I hadn’t slept that night, and I rushed to see him. He had just come out of the ICU after surgery,” he added.

What followed was a moment that Ibrahim says left him in tears. Ibrahim said,” He opened his eyes, spoke to Sara for a bit, and asked for me. I was so happy; I said, ‘I’m right here, dad.’ And then he said, “If you were there, you would’ve beaten that guy up.” That made me weep. I wish I had been there. At one point, when I heard he got stabbed, I started to think of the worst-case scenario. That’s a very scary feeling.”

Saif Ali Khan had reportedly walked himself into the hospital, despite being seriously injured, with the knife still inside his body. Setting the record straight, as many claimed that Ibrahim drove his father to the hospital; he said, “To everyone saying I drove him to the hospital with my baby brother, I would like to clarify that my dad walked into the hospital himself. He walked in with a knife stuck in him and said, ‘I need help’,” Ibrahim clarified.

In the attack, which occurred in January, Saif suffered multiple injuries, including near his spine and neck, and underwent several surgeries. He was discharged after five days, and security around his residence has since been significantly tightened. The actor also enlisted the services of Ronit Roy’s AceSquad Security LLP for ongoing protection.

The traumatic experience has deeply impacted Ibrahim, who says it brought him closer to his father. “I feel a lot closer to him now. If someone in your immediate family has a near-death experience, you don’t take them for granted. You become more present in the relationship,” he added.

Despite the family crisis, Ibrahim’s professional life has been in the spotlight. His debut film, ‘Nadaaniyan’, released on Netflix in March under Karan Johar’s production banner. It received a mixed response from audiences.

‘Nadaaniyan’ featured an ensemble cast including Suniel Shetty, Mahima Chaudhary, Dia Mirza, and Jugal Hansraj. Ibrahim is now gearing up for his next project, ‘Sarzameen’, directed by Kayoze Irani and starring Kajol and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
