Mrunal Thakur and Dhanush are the latest lovebirds the entire nation is talking about. Reports of their dating surfaced after Dhanush and Mrunal were seen holding hands during the premiere of Mrunal’s film, Son Of Sardaar 2. Soon fans on Reddit revealed that the rumoured couple even have a joint Spotify playlist, and it is a saga of Gen-Z love. However, not many know that Mrunal always liked Dhanush, and it seems like she manifested the relationship.
When Mrunal Thakur accepted Dhanush is her favourite actor
Mrunal has been busy working in South films and in Hindi cinema. It was during one such event in the south that she met Dhanush, and reportedly they fell in love. Amidst their dating buzz, an old interview of Mrunal Thakur with News18 surfaced. In the 2023 interaction, the actress accepted that Dhanush is her favourite actor. She was quoted as saying:
“I really enjoy watching Dhanush’s movie. ‘Sir’ is the latest film that I watched, and I really enjoyed his performance.”
Mrunal and Dhanush’s love story
Talking about their first meeting, the source revealed that Mrunal was busy shuttling for work between Mumbai and Hyderabad. It was during an event in the south where she met Dhanush for the first time. Soon, they felt a connection and their friendship blossomed into love. Also, it is worth mentioning that a Reddit user revealed that the duo have a joint Spotify playlist. The source shared:
“The success of Sita Ramam opened doors for Mrunal in the South film industry. She has simultaneously been working in Mumbai too. Mrunal, who is currently shooting for Dacoit: A Love Story with Adivi Sesh, keeps shuttling between Mumbai and Hyderabad, and it’s during an event down south where she met Dhanush.”
The source further revealed that onlookers noticed Mrunal and Dhanush’s closeness during the premiere of Kajol’s film, Maa, in June 2025. Later, Dhanush’s name in Mrunal’s guest list for the premiere of Son Of Sardaar 2 intensified their dating buzz.
Dhanush’s first marriage
Dhanush was earlier married to Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth. In 2022, the ex-couple announced their separation and later filed for divorce, which was granted a divorce after twenty years of being married. The Chennai Family Welfare Court accepted their divorce plea as they were not ready for reconciliation. Earlier, in an interview with Rediff, Dhanush denied rumours of love marriage with Aishwaryaa. The actor shared that it was the media that started linking them together.
In an attempt to stop the rumours, their families came together with a solution. During the discussion, the families suggested the idea of getting them married, as they thought, ‘What is wrong with the idea of marriage?’ Dhanush then thanked the media for his marriage with Aishwaryaa and clarified that their marriage wasn’t a love marriage. He said:
“So, I have to thank the media for my marriage with Aishwarya. I reiterate that ours is not a love marriage.”
Dhanush also addressed the age issue, as Aishwaryaa was older than him. He shared that the age factor never affected him. Interestingly, in Dhanush’s new relationship, he is nine years older than Mrunal Thakur.
