‘Weapons’: What Is It About & Where Can You Watch It?

Several months ago, grainy video clips of small children running through the streets of a nondescript town with their arms outstretched were released online with little context except for the ominous URL MaybrookMissing.com and little more. The black-and-white footage, only a few seconds long, appeared in theaters and on various social sites, piquing the curiosity of moviegoers and horror aficionados who appreciated the Blair Witch-style mystery of it all.

As weeks went by, audiences were fed tidbits of information about the film called Weapons, but the mystery widened and fear grew as more and more clips were released.

Hot off the success of his previous film Barbarian, director Zach Cregger has become known for subverting audience expectations, and his latest head-trip horror film looks to be no different. With several terrifying teasers, trailers, and clips already out in the wild, his latest feature Weapons is building strong word-of-mouth and generating buzz that goes far beyond a simple story about missing children.

But where can you watch Weapons? What’s it about, and who stars in it? And when will it be available for streaming? Find out everything you need to know below.

    How can you watch Weapons?

Weapons is only available in theaters and IMAX nationwide on August 8, 2025, and internationally beginning in August 2025.

When will Weapons be available to stream?

There are no streaming or digital purchase options as of yet, but be sure to check back for updates.

    What is Weapons about?

Early one morning at 2:17 a.m., 17 children from Justine Gandy’s (Julia Garner) class in the town of Maybrook run off from the safety and security of their homes without rhyme or reason, disappearing into the night. There are no signs of a struggle and no evidence of a conspiracy — just grainy footage from various cameras of the children in a seemingly trance-like state fleeing into the darkness.

Most people in town blame Ms. Gandy, making her the focus of their witch hunt, though she appears to have little to do with the disappearances. She joins forces with Archer Graff (Josh Brolin), the father one of the missing children, and together they set out to uncover the truth behind the mystery.

    Who stars in Weapons?

The film stars Josh Brolin as Archer Graff, one of the concerned parents; Julia Garner as their teacher, Justine Gandy; Alden Ehrenreich as Paul Morgan, a local law enforcement officer; and Cary Christopher as Alex, the only student from Ms. Gandy’s class who didn’t run away.

It also features Benedict Wong as Andrew, the school principal, along with Amy Madigan and Austin Abrams as town residents named Gladys and Anthony, respectively.

    What is MaybrookMissing.com?

In the spirit of The Blair Witch Project and Creepypasta, Weapons launched a chilling companion website posing as a desperate search hub for the film’s missing children. Designed to mimic an outdated Angelfire-style page, the site feels authentically assembled by distressed townspeople, amateurish in appearance but urgent in purpose.

Using your location data, the site ominously attempts to track the whereabouts of the missing children, drawing you into its unsettling mystery. Scattered throughout are eerie video clips, fragmented teacher association links, odd recipes, and even callbacks to director Zach Cregger’s previous film, Barbarian. Laden with hidden Easter eggs and a few surprises, the site serves as an immersive extension of the film’s dread-soaked world, heightening the tension long before the opening credits roll.

    Who is behind Weapons?

Zach Cregger directs from his own screenplay and also produces alongside Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules, with Michelle Morrissey and Josh Brolin executive producing.

Is there a trailer for Weapons?

Yes! Audiences were first intrigued by several spooky teasers before a trailer was rolled out by Warner. Bros. There is also a clip you can watch below. (Please note that the clip is fairly intense and may not be suitable for all audiences.)
