However, as per multiple reports, Lil claimed that she began her YouTube journey, when she was 9 years old. In 2023, she reportedly changed her name from Lil Tay to Tay Tian. In the same year, Tay garnered a lot of limelight, not for her work but for a rumour surrounding her death. Tensions further rose when reports claimed that not only the young rapper, but also her brother, Jason, died along with her.
The news of her fake death came after Tay was off social media for five years. However, Tay later confirmed that the news of her death was fake. Recently, the American-Canadian rapper made headlines for creating history. She broke the record and earned a hefty amount in just a few hours on her OnlyFans account. Who is Lil Tay?
Lil Tay was born on July 29, 2007, in Atlanta, Georgia, US, to Angela Tian and Christopher Hope. Later, she moved to Los Angeles, where she began her dancing and singing lessons. Before moving to LA, she also stayed in Vancouver, Canada. Lil always had a passion for music. In 2018, she started posting videos on her YouTube channel and Instagram. Her content mainly focused on raps, where she boasted of being wealthy. Her pages came under scanner as she used foul and racist language. However, after rising to fame, Lil totally vanished from social media for five years. Later, the American-Canadian rapper alleged that she got involved in a custody battle between her parents, and her father didn’t allow her to make any content on social media at that time.
When Lil Tay made headlines with her fake death news after a five-year absence from social media
After a five-year-long absence, Tay’s fans got the heartbreaking news of her death. In 2023, a statement was posted from Tay’s official Instagram handle, that she and her brother had died in August 2023. The note was later deleted from her Instagram account, which further confused her fans. Soon after the statement was posted, Tay told TMZ that it was fake news. Both she and her brother, Jason, were keeping well. She shared that a third-party intervention happened that spread the death rumours. She was quoted as saying:
“I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I’m completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say. It’s been a very traumatising 24 hours. All day yesterday, I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking and tearful phone calls from loved ones all while trying to sort out this mess.”

Within a year after the rumour of her death surfaced online, Lil Tay gained traction for her health condition. In September 2024, reports surfaced on the internet that the young rapper was in the ICU and her condition was serious. Later, her social media accounts claimed that Lil was diagnosed with a life-threatening heart tumour. She continued sharing updates on her social media handles. To remove the tumour, she also underwent an open-heart surgery. Taking to her social media handle, she wrote:
“Heart tumour removed. I’m back. I love you all so much, and this time nothing will stop me from achieving my dreams.”
Lil Tay opens her OnlyFans account and makes history
Lil Tay is currently making headlines after she broke the record on OnlyFans and made her name on the adult-content site. According to a report by People, in August 2025, Lil hinted at launching her OnlyFans account. In a video on July 22, 2025, the rapper revealed that many men have been waiting for her OnlyFans account launch and are looking forward to getting the link soon after she turned 18 on her birthday, July 29, 2025. On August 4, 2025, Lil took to her Instagram handle and shared a screenshot which featured her whopping income in just three hours. She earned over USD 1 million in just three hours after launching her OnlyFans account. Sharing the screengrab, Lil wrote:
“$1M in 3 hours. We broke the fuck out of that OnlyFans record. Come see content I took of myself at 12:01 AM on my 18th BDAY. Only available for 24 hours.”
