A deadly shooting broke out during an after-party for a popular music festival in downtown Los Angeles, leaving two people dead and six others injured.

The violence erupted early Monday morning in a warehouse complex, turning a night of celebration into one of tragedy.

Los Angeles police first arrived at the party around 11 p.m. on Sunday after receiving a report of an armed individual entering the building. Officers moved in to break up what was described as a large gathering. The suspect was taken into custody on the spot, but the situation worsened hours later.

The party had been promoted on social media as an unofficial after-party for the Hard Summer music festival, which ran over the weekend at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, about nine miles from the site of the shooting.

The evening techno-music festival had drawn a large crowd, and many were believed to have made their way to the downtown party afterward.

Although police initially shut down the party, they received reports of gunfire around 1 a.m. When officers returned, they found a man dead at the scene and several others suffering from gunshot wounds. A woman died later at the hospital.

According to the Associated Press, six people in total were transported to local hospitals. Their conditions remain unknown. A local man told KABC-TV that his 29-year-old son was among the two people killed.

Officials have not made any statements about suspects or a possible motive. Police were at the scene through the morning, collecting evidence and trying to reconstruct what led to the deadly shooting.

The Los Angeles Police Department has asked residents to come forward with any information.
