British pop powerhouse Jessie J, known for hits like Domino, Bang Bang, and Price Tag, is more than just a chart-topping artist. Over the years, the 37-year-old singer, born Jessica Cornish, has become equally known for her soulful vocals and her candid sharing about her health struggles. From heart conditions in childhood to recent mental health diagnoses and now a breast cancer battle, Jessie has time and again opened her heart to her fans on social media. Her journey has been one of pain and resilience, and this is everything we know so far.

Jessi J was hospitalised after cancer surgery complications

On August 3, 2025, Jessie J revealed via Instagram Stories that she had been hospitalised six weeks after her breast cancer surgery due to unexpected complications. Doctors discovered ‘a little fluid’ on her lungs and suspected an infection. Jessie also shared that she was initially misdiagnosed with a blood clot. She was finding it hard to breathe in, but discharged herself in the night and informed her fans that she would continue her recovery as an outpatient. She wrote:

“6 weeks post-surgery, and I was back in the same ward I was after my surgery. Not expected or planned…The recovery, physically, is far from quick or easy, and mentally, it’s been the most challenging time for me. Especially being a mum with a toddler and being unable to be the mother I usually am.”

Jessie J was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year

In June 2025, Jessie J stunned fans by revealing that she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. The news came just before her performance at Summertime Ball, after which she planned to take time off for surgery. In a heartfelt Instagram video, Jessie said:

“I want to share it with my fans and the people that care about me, and also I’m a sharer… Before ‘No Secrets’ came out, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer.”

She emphasised how the word ‘early’ gave her hope. She said cancer ‘sucks’ in any form, but she is holding on to the word early. Though still processing the diagnosis, Jessie tried to keep her spirits up, even jokingly said that it was very dramatic way to get a boob job and she promised her fans she’ll come back with more music.

Jessie J went through a difficult recovery, both mentally and physically

Jessie’s road to healing hasn’t been easy. Despite being ‘all clear’ after surgery, she made it clear that recovery is far from over. Jessie admitted to struggling with not being able to be as active as she’s used to. She confessed that her mental health had been severely impacted during recovery. It wasn’t a speedy recovery for her, and as she was also diagnosed with ADHD and OCD the slow pace of recovery was a hard reality for her to accept.

Jessie J has been through many past health conditions and a life of medical challenges

Jessie J’s breast cancer battle is only the latest chapter in a long list of health challenges she has openly shared with her fans. She was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome at the young age of 8. This rare heart condition causes episodes of abnormally fast heart rates due to an extra electrical pathway in the heart. It has affected her throughout her life and once led to a medical emergency. Despite the severity, Jessie never let the diagnosis hold her back, instead she used her experiences to raise awareness about the disorder.

At just 18 years old, Jessie suffered a minor stroke, a terrifying incident that occurred due to complications from her heart condition. The event served as a wake-up call, forcing her to become more conscious of her health and lifestyle choices from a young age. It also deepened her determination to pursue music, knowing firsthand how unpredictable life could be.

Jessie J suffers from Meniere’s disease

In 2020, Jessie revealed she had been diagnosed with Meniere’s disease, a chronic inner ear disorder that affects balance and hearing. The condition causes episodes of vertigo, ringing in the ears, and sometimes temporary hearing loss. Jessie described the impact it had on her ability to perform, saying it’s hard for her to sing with one ear. Despite the discomfort, she continued to create and perform music, fighting the challenges she faced in the way.

Jessi J went through a heartbreaking miscarriage in 2021

One of the most heartbreaking moments in Jessie J’s health journey came in November 2021, when she suffered a miscarriage. She had a performance planned and received the devastating news just hours before the show, ultimately she chose to go onstage while processing deep emotional pain. By speaking publicly about the experience, Jessie helped break the stigma around pregnancy loss and received widespread support from fans and fellow artists.

Jessie J’s ADHD and OCD diagnoses came in 2024

In 2024, Jessie opened up about being diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The diagnosis made her understand long-standing behaviours and emotional patterns in her life. Jessie’s transparency with her fans shed light on adult diagnoses of neurodivergent conditions, which are often sidelines. She offered comfort and validation to many people who are navigating similar paths as her. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she shared:

“Hello. I was diagnosed with ADHD and OCD about three months ago… The way I’ve been, the way I deal with things. The relationships I have had. How I work and how I love…It’s empowered me and, honestly, sometimes has overwhelmed me all at the same time.”

Jessie J’s support system: Chanan Colman and their son, Sky

Throughout all of these health ups and downs, Jessie J has found strength in her family. She has been in a steady relationship with Chanan Safir Colman, a retired professional basketball player since 2021. In May 2023, the couple welcomed their son, Sky Safir Colman, whom Jessie often refers to as her ‘miracle’ baby. Becoming a mother has been one of the most meaningful milestones in her life. Even as she struggles with physical recovery, she notes how being a parent adds an extra emotional layer. Though Chanan keeps a low profile, Jessie has mentioned how supportive he’s been during her journey, both as a partner and a co-parent.

Jessie J’s story is one of extraordinary vulnerability and unfiltered honesty. From battling multiple lifelong conditions to facing breast cancer surgery and new diagnoses like ADHD and OCD, her willingness to share has helped destigmatise serious health issues in the industry. Through her words, music, and spirit, she continues to inspire fans not just with her talent but with her unbeatable strength.

Whether she’s belting out a ballad or updating fans from a hospital bed, Jessie J reminds her fans that healing is never linear and sharing your story might just be the most powerful act of them all.
