The quake occurred at 12:40 am IST at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicenter located at latitude 33.36N and longitude 73.23E. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been confirmed.
Earlier on Saturday, a stronger 5.4-magnitude earthquake hit parts of Pakistan, affecting regions including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Islamabad, and leaving residents shaken.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) reported that the earthquake struck at 2:04 am PST, with its epicenter in the Hindukush mountain region of Afghanistan. The quake occurred at a depth of 102 kilometers.
Shallow quakes like these often cause stronger ground shaking due to the reduced distance seismic waves travel to the surface.
Pakistan is among the world’s most earthquake-prone countries due to its location at the convergence of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. This tectonic boundary makes the region particularly susceptible to frequent seismic activity.
